Style Notes: Terry Cloth

Plush, Comfy, Playful, Relaxed

Despite being much heavier in weight than typical summer fabrics such as linen and natural cotton, terry clothing is trending hard this summer, and for good reason! This plush and comfy fabric is perfect for lake days, backyard pool hangs, windy days at the beach or even lounging around the house after a shower. It of course comes in handy when you want to dry yourself off, but it’s more than just a practical textile. It’s both playful and relaxed, and gives off a seriously fun vibe!

I’ve been living in this Lucy Folk cotton-terry mini dress this summer and have received compliments each time I wear it. I also ordered this tie-dye top (also on sale here, I wear an xs) and these shorts, both from the aptly named brand Terry, which I can’t wait to wear.

Below are some other favourite terry pieces that have caught my eye recently. How amazing is this terry bucket hat? And if you know me, you know I can’t resist anything Zimmermann. And although terry clothing is currently trending, I do think it’s here to stay, because if the lockdowns taught us anything it’s that comfort is important! (Okay they also taught us many other important things, but let’s just focus on style here 😉 ) And what can be more comfortable than wearing clothes made out of towels?

P.S: Terry cloth can sometimes be a blend of cotton and polyester. As always, all the pieces I’ve shared below contain no polyester and are 100% cotton 🙂
